pkg files.

General Discussion

Hi there. Can anyone please help me with some advice? I recently downloaded an application file ending with dmg. When it decompressed it created a file ending with pkg. ( accompanied by an icon of a cardboard box.) On double clicking this installer icon, the installer said that files were being installed and system was being optimised. Finally I went to find my new program only to discover it was not there. Spare gigs on HD confirmed no change had occured. I was then advised to install X11 off the mac disk that came with my computer. I did that only to find the same result. X11 had not loaded. So I tried the icon to install ALL the x tools. It spent several minutes loading files and optimising. When I went to find X11, it was not there. What am I doing wrong?

All I want to do is access X11 so I can bring up some sort of command line that it creates ( whatever that is ) so I can start this new app I downloaded. P.S. What ever happened to double-clicking to start your new app? Talk about making things complicated. Sigh. Nola
